Department of Textile Materials (DTM) founded in 1950s was organized and established by the famous textile educator and textile founder, Lifetime Professor Haojing Yan, and DTM can enroll graduate and postgraduate students. DTM was one of the first educational institutions in China authorized to confer bachelor’s, master’s, and Philosophy of doctor degree since 1981. In Mid 1990s, department of textile materials changed its name to department of textile materials & design as the combining of disciplines of textile materials and fabric design, and recover to department of textile material in 2010. Department of Textile Material belongs to the textile material & design discipline, which is the key subjects of Shanghai Municipality, and the key subjects of the National “211 Project” (1996) and is the Nationalkey subjects (2002). DTM has the platform for post-doctorate working station of textile science and engineering and Yangtse Rive scholar work station. DTM firstly enrolls postgraduate, Ph.D and post-doctor of textile students n China and conducting research at a higher level which is recognized by Textile Institute.

For these years, various researching has been investigated and have obtained rich achievements ranging from theories to applications in recent 5 years, including five doctoral theses awarded the “National excellent PhD thesis”; seven doctoral theses awarded the “National excellent PhD thesis prize nominated”; seven doctoral theses awarded “Shanghai Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award”. The department undertakes more than 30 national or provincial major scientific projects, such as State Science and Technology Support Program, “863”Project, Natural Science Foundation of China, National Defense Basic Scientific Research program of China, National Technological Innovation Project, et. al., and also achieves 6 National and Provincial Progress Awards of Science and Technology, and 5 National and Provincial Educational Achievements. Every year, more than 50 high level articles and about 30 national patents are published. Besides, 6 textbooks are awarded provincial awards, and 3 kinds of textbooks are intended to be the suggested postgraduate’s textbooks, therein Textile Materials is one of the National Superior Courses.

Department of Textile Material has 18 staff members, including 6 professors, 9 associate professors, 3 lecturers, distinguished professors and 7 part-time professors. They have been academic visitors in USA, UK, France, Australia, Czech Republic, Japan, Singapore. Department of textile materials has established cooperative relationships with higher education institutions as well as well-known enterprises of more than 20 countries and regions, such as USA, UK, France, Australia, Czech Republic, Japan and Singapore.
