Department of Knitting and Clothing (DKC) was organized and established in 1950s, and DKC can enroll graduate and postgraduate students. DKC was one of the first educational institutions in China authorized to confer bachelor’s, master’s, and Philosophy of doctor degree since 1981. Department of Knitting and Clothing belongs to the Textile Science and Engineering discipline, which is the “(Chinese) National Key Discipline”(1987) , the key subjects of the National “211 Project”(1996) and the “First-Class Discipline (at the universities located in Shanghai)”(1996). DKC has the platform for post-doctorate working station of textile science and engineering and Yangtse Rive scholar work station. DKC firstly enrolls postgraduate, Ph.D and post-doctor of textile students in China and conducting research at a higher level which is recognized by Textile Institute.

For these years, various researching has been investigated and have obtained rich achievements ranging from theories to applications in recent 5 years, including doctoral theses awarded “Shanghai Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award”. The department undertakes more than 30 national or provincial major scientific projects, such as State Science and Technology Support Program, “863”Project, “973”Project, “921-3”Project, Natural Science Foundation of China, National Defense Basic Scientific Research program of China, National Technological Innovation Project, et. al., and also achieves 25 National and Provincial Progress Awards of Science and Technology, and 7 National and Provincial Educational Achievements. Every year, more than 50 high level articles and about 20 national patents are published. Besides, 2 textbooks are awarded provincial awards, therein Knitting Technology is one of the National Superior Courses.

Department of Knitting and Clothing has 10 staff members, including 4 professors, 5 associate professors, 1 lecturers, distinguished professors and 1 part-time professors. They have been academic visitors in USA, Germany, UK, France, Australia, CzechRepublic, Japan, Singapore. Department of textile materials has established cooperative relationships with higher education institutions as well as well-known enterprises of more than 20 countries and regions, such as USA, Germany, UK, France, Australia, Czech Republic, Japan and Singapore.

Department of Knitting and Clothing has awarded 2010 Shanghai excellent teaching team” and “2012 Chinese knitting talent cultivation award of China Knitting Industry Association” and “2013 science and technology innovation excellent team of Shanghai workers” and “2011-2013 Shanghai education pioneer”

1.Development, preparation technology and comfortable performance of knitted apparel products

The research team that focuses on the development, preparation technology and comfortable performance of knitted apparel products, is mainly engaged in the researches on related raw materials, product design, preparation technology and performance characterization, comfortable performance of knitted apparel products. It opens up a new research field of knitted apparel products.

2.Development, preparation technology and performance of industrial knitted material

The research team that focuses on the development, preparation technology and performance of industrial knitted material, is mainly engaged in the researches on related raw materials, product design, preparation technology and performance characterization, such as development and preparation technology of technical textiles and special braiding technology, performance and application of technical textiles, and research and development of biomedical engineering textiles and the biomechanics.

3.Development, preparation technology and performance of knitted structural composites

The research team that focuses on the product development, preparation technology and performance of knitted structural composites, is mainly engaged in the researches on related raw materials, product design, preparation technology and performance characterization. It opens up a new research field of special functional textile, such as development, preparation technology and special knitting technology of technical textiles, and research on performance and application of knitted structural composites, and mechanical properties and interfacial properties analysis of textile structural composites.

4.Knitting technology and fashion design and application of knitting pattern

The research team that focuses on the knitting technology and fashion design is mainly engaged in the design and application of knitting pattern, color and knitting jacquard fabrics. Also it is engaged in the researches on product development and performance characterization of intelligent knitting materials and clothing.

5.Electronic intelligent textiles and digital textile technology

The research team that focuses on the electronic intelligent textiles and digital textile technology is mainly engaged in the researches on product development and performance characterization of knitted electronic intelligent textiles and digital textile technology, such as digital image processing and analysis of fiber products, computer aided design and simulation of knitted textiles, intelligent detection and control of the textile process, and smart intelligent knitted materials and clothing.

Objectives

The objective is to train special talents with basic knowledge and special knowledge of textile materials and kitting technology, who can recognize and characterize the structure, property, function and technology of textile materials and knitted fabrics, and can solve the technical problems occurring in textile engineering and consumption application, and can work for improving the fabrication technique and application of knitted materials, and have the abilities for soundly solving the problems of quality inspection and engineering technology.

Major and Specialty

The specialty mainly involves knitting product design and performance, design the structures and styles of knitted garments, knitted forming technology and products. Students mainly learn to use of all types of textile fibers through various knitting processing methods to made into knitted fabrics and formed products, and then design and produce knitted garments, decorative fabric and research and development the high performance technical textiles for defense, aerospace, biomedical, construction and other industries. The courses are emphasized on knitting technology and products combined with clothing, and opened major basic courses with special features of knitted product design and knitted clothes design, to train students to acquire knowledge of knitting products and clothing, with the capability and innovation sprit in knitted product design and development and manufacture.
